Where do these numbers come from?
This calculator runs on the same government-fee dataset as our research report on what the world's four big electronic entry systems cost travelers — including a nationality-by-nationality ranking.
Government fees are the official amounts published by U.S. CBP and the U.S. Department of State, GOV.UK, the European Union and the Government of Canada, as recorded in Charta Visa's visa-requirements database. Fees are shown in their own currency; the USD total uses approximate exchange rates as of June 2026 and is for comparison only. Charta Visa is a private application-assistance service, not a government agency — you can always apply directly through official government channels, and an approved authorization is never a guarantee of entry.
Frequently asked questions
Which nationality pays the most to enter the US, UK, EU and Canada?
Travelers whose passports are not in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program generally pay the most, because the consular B1/B2 visa's government fee is several times higher than any electronic travel authorization. The full nationality-by-nationality ranking is in our Cost of Crossing Borders 2026 study.
Are these government fees or service fees?
The headline numbers are government fees — what the destination's government charges every applicant, whether or not anyone assists you. Charta Visa's optional service fee is listed separately and applies only if you choose to apply through us.
Why is ETIAS listed if it hasn't launched?
The EU has announced ETIAS and its fee, but the system is not open yet — no one can apply today, and any website claiming to accept ETIAS applications is not legitimate. We include the announced fee so you can budget ahead.
Do I pay the DS-160 MRV fee to Charta Visa?
No. The MRV (visa application) fee for the U.S. B1/B2 visa is paid directly to the U.S. government when you book your consular interview. Charta Visa never collects it — our checkout shows it for transparency only.
