If your nationality is not part of the Visa Waiver Program, the B1/B2 visitor visa — filed with the DS-160 form — is how you visit the United States for tourism or business. Applicants may apply as third-country nationals at a US embassy or consulate outside their home country, but accepting those applications is at each post's discretion, and waits or refusal risks can differ for non-residents. Check the website of the specific embassy before paying the visa fee there, because the fee is only valid in the country where you pay it.
No. The wait time is the appointment backlog — how far away the next available interview slot is. You complete the DS-160 form online first and then book the interview; the form itself has no separate government processing queue. After the interview, some applications also go through additional administrative processing, which is not included in these figures either.
The DS-160 is the online application form for US nonimmigrant visas, filed on the U.S. government's CEAC website. You can complete it yourself directly with the government, or use Charta Visa's assisted preparation service, where we prepare and review the form with you before submission.
